Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club

Andrea M. and Moses F., have been named Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Month for October.

Andrea, 11, is a future fashion designer in the making, taking her eye for style and love of art into a passion for sketching clothing designs, mainly formal and Quinceanera dresses. Her color of choice for her dresses is red. In addition to fashion, Andrea plans graduating from High School but attending a college in the area so she can be close to home in her beloved city of Glen Cove. In addition to art and fashion, she excels in math and enjoys reading. She also plays the flute. Andrea has been a Club member for four years and attends fairly regularly. When at the Club, homework is her first priority followed by playing with her friends, especially basketball in the gym. She also participates in health and wellness programs where she is learning a lot about nutritious foods and healthy cooking.

Moses, also 11, is a saxophone player. He is in the band at school and leans towards the sciences. He is a whiz at technology and this talent often proves to be a help to his teachers when they have tech issues. He is not quite sure what his future aspirations right now but he plans on graduating from High School and attending College. He enjoys sports and participates in spring and fall soccer leagues. Moses has been a member for four years as well, and during his time at the Club, has truly blossomed into a friendly and outgoing young man. “I really enjoy coming to the Club where I can socialize and interact with my friends,” said Moses who appreciates learning and being introduced to new experiences. He has a love of sports and gravitates to the Club’s gym where he likes to play basketball, dodgeball and soccer with his friends. “You are never bored at the Club,” said Moses who also credited the staff for always being available to members. “I love the staff, they take care of you and are there for you if you ever have a problem.”
