Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club April Youth of the Month Saul M.V. and Naiara G. have a fondness for soccer and awe-inspiring respect for staff and peers. Saul and Naiara were selected Youth of the Month for overall growth and achievements.
Saul is twelve years old and in the sixth grade. He is a member of a soccer team and eagerly plays the game any chance he gets. A sportsman all around, his favorite time at school and at the Club is spent in the gymnasium. While he hopes to play professionally someday, his back-up plan is to become a police officer. Saul has been a Club member for five years, advancing to the Teen program this year where he participates in youth development and interactive activities like safe driving initiatives. “The Club is very supportive and it’s a place where kids can learn and grow. Everyone is very respectful, and I have made a lot of friends.”
Naiara, seven, is in the first grade and also plays on a soccer team. She excels in math and likes to learn about animals with lambs and parrots being her favorite creatures. She especially enjoys reading about Jack and Annie and their many adventures in the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne. Naiara first joined the Club for the summer program and continued her membership through the school year. From health and wellness initiatives to art projects and learning about technology and computers, Naiara is thrilled by all the Club experiences. “I came here for fun but am learning a lot. The Club means having fun but also trying our best. This place is very helpful and everyone cares about you.” Naiara has a few career choices in mind including becoming a doctor, a teacher or a soccer player.
