Junior Youth of the Month Alexandra is nine years old and in the fifth grade. She has an enthusiasm for math, but her creative expression in art, particularly with themes of butterflies, flowers, and nature, truly stands out. She is also an avid reader, with favorite books including Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White, the Mercy Watson series by Kate DiCamillo and illustrated by Chris Van Dusen, and The Baby-Sitters Club novels by Ann M. Martin. She has been a member of the Club for two years, attending daily and participating in many academic programs, including the Power Hour homework help initiative, which has helped improve her grades at school. In addition to being creative and enjoying reading, Alexandra loves playing sports, especially kickball, dodgeball, running bases, and basketball. Alexandra plans on graduating from high school and attending college, where she hopes to pursue a career in teaching or nursing. “I want to teach kids new things, but I also want to help people who are sick,” said Alexandra. She also dreams of traveling someday, with her top destinations being Hawaii, the Dominican Republic, and South Carolina.

Gabriel C. is thirteen years old and in the seventh grade. He is both studious and sporty, embodying a balanced approach to his interests and activities. His favorite books are the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. Education is a top priority for Gabriel who takes his schoolwork very seriously, earning him a spot on the Principal's Honor Roll. He has a natural inclination towards math and science and dreams of pursuing higher education in these fields. For now, Gabriel finds joy in a variety of activities including playing soccer, basketball, wrestling, and swimming. In addition to his sports pursuits, Gabriel plays percussion and is an active member of the school band. He has been a dedicated member of the Club since he was nine years old. He attends the Club regularly, only missing sessions when he has soccer team commitments. As a Teen member, Gabriel engages in projects and activities in the Teen Center. He participates in a range of experiences, from collaborative projects to friendly competitions in sports and video games with his many Club friends. Gabriel values the mentorship and guidance he receives at the Club. “I enjoy being at the Club and learning from the staff who know more and have a lot more experience than me. They are guiding me and my future.”
