September 2024 Youth of the Month (Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club)

Diego H. and Kristen B. have been recognized as Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club's Youth of the Month for September, celebrating their outstanding dedication, positive attitude, and leadership within the Club.

Junior Youth of the Month, six-year-old Diego is a second grader who consistently demonstrates respectfulness, responsibility, and a positive attitude. Not only does he follow direction but he also encourages his peers to do the same, making him a natural role model. Diego works well with everyone, showing courtesy to both staff and fellow Club members. A new member who first joined through the Summer Program, Diego loved the many field trips and quickly made new friends. Now, he attends the Club’s afterschool program daily, enjoying time with his friends, solving puzzles, and spending time in his favorite space—the Computer Lab. Diego is also an avid soccer player who dreams of becoming a professional one day, and a fan of the Dog Man book series by Dave Pilkey. For Diego, the Club is a place that feels like home.

Senior Youth of the Month, Kristen B., is driven by her passion for helping children lead happy and well-adjusted lives, with hopes of one day becoming a child psychologist. At just twelve years old and in the seventh grade, Kristen is a focused and driven student who does well academically, particularly in her favorite subject, science. She is also an avid artist and reader, with The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer being her favorite book series. In addition to her academic pursuits, Kristen enjoys playing volleyball, showcasing her dedication to both sports and academics. Like Diego, she first joined the Club through the Summer Program and has continued as a regular member, participating daily in the Afterschool activities. Kristen is enthusiastic about the Teen Programs, where she actively participates in SMART Girls, healthy lifestyle initiatives, and self-esteem building workshops. “The staff at the Club are very caring and make me feel better about myself,” Kristen shared. Staff unanimously selected Kristen the YOM for her resourcefulness, commitment to the Club, and dedication to supporting her peers.
