Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club
Michael O.-G. and Emely T. have been named Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Month for October.

Nine-year-old Michael, the Junior Youth of the Month, is a vibrant 4th grader who has been an active Club member for three years. Michael is passionate about school, with reading—especially Dog Man books by Dave Pilkey—being his favorite subject. A talented musician, he plays the clarinet in his school band and enjoys exploring various instruments. Beyond music, Michael is a dedicated athlete who loves soccer and is an enthusiastic member of the Glen Cove Junior Soccer team. Always eager to participate, Michael brings a positive attitude and kindness to every activity, making him a joy to be around. He appreciates the wide array of spaces and programs at the Club, describing it as a “funhouse” and sharing, “I like coming here every day.” With dreams of becoming a chef and owning a restaurant, Michael envisions a future where he creates delicious, playful dishes that bring joy to others.
Senior Youth of the Month, Emely, is eleven years old and in the sixth grade. Interested in many subjects, Emely’s top choice is social studies, and her current favorite book is The Thief of Always by Clive Barker. As a relatively new member who recently joined the after-school program in September, Emely has already made a big impression on staff, who describe her maturity as “unmatched.” “I joined the Club because my friends said how great it was,” explained Emely. “I really like it here and love being able to play in the gym.” Emely attends the Club every day, enjoying a range of activities from math games and other educational pursuits in the Learning Center to hands-on projects in the Art Room and sports in the Gym. Outside of school and Club, she engages in collaging, journaling, and playing dodgeball with friends. Passionate about animals, Emely hopes to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She currently has a pet turtle, has cared for a hamster, and three bunnies but looks forward to getting a dog someday.
