Junior Youth of the Month, eight-year-old Diego L., is a third grader who appreciates learning and tackling challenges. Math is his favorite subject in school, and he is especially drawn to activities that involve technology and problem-solving. Diego hopes to become an engineer, a career that would allow him to continue exploring how things work and creating solutions. Diego also stays active and relishes a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. He enjoys playing soccer, spending time with friends and reading the Dog Man book series by Dave Pilkey. Diego has been a member for a year and a half and during this time has quickly made the most of the opportunities available to him. One of his favorite areas of the Club is the Computer Room, where he eagerly participates in the Coding Club and learning more about technology. The program gives him a chance to strengthen his skills while exploring an interest that connects closely with his academic strengths. While Diego fully immerses himself in the activities the Club offers, what stands out most to him is the sense of community and the friendships he has formed. “The Club is a place where I can be myself and explore things I’m interested in,” said Diego.

Senior Youth of the Month, 13-year-old Esteban F., an eighth grader, thrives on challenges both in school and in extracurricular activities. He excels in math, taking pride in solving problems and strengthening his analytical skills. Esteban hopes to pursue a career as a mechanic, a path that allows him to combine hands-on work with practical problem-solving. Sports are a major part of Esteban’s life. He plays on his school’s soccer and basketball teams and enjoys running. Beyond competition, athletics help him build discipline, persistence, and teamwork skills. Among the books he enjoys, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton stands out for its story of loyalty and self-discovery. Esteban has been part of the Club community for a year and a half and during this time has created lasting connections and established a routine that keeps him engaged after school. “The Club is such a fun place to make friends and learn more,” he said, highlighting the balance of fun, growth, and teamwork that defines his experience. What makes the Club especially meaningful to Esteban is the chance to connect with peers, mentors, supportive staff and positive friendships that make the environment welcoming and motivating.
