Glen Cove Boys & Girls Youth of the Month for October Brianna M. and Julyssa M., both have a creative spirit and artistic talents.

Junior Youth of the Month Brianna is nine years old and in the fourth grade. Here passion is drawing, focusing on people, animation, and little figurines. In addition to her artistic tendencies Brianna is also athletic and enjoys gymnastics and playing soccer. She is fascinated by STEM learning and learning in general with her preferred subjects being art, math, writing and reading. Judy Moody by Megan McDonald and Junie B. Jones by Barbara Parker are among her favorite book series. Brianna first joined the Club this past July when she enrolled in the Summer Brain Gain Learning program. “I especially liked the field trips,” Brianna said of her Summer experience. She continued with the After School program this Fall and regularly participates in the Power Hour Homework Help program and healthy initiatives like ‘Snack and Chat’. “We make yummy snacks and learn about food while we talk. It’s exciting to come here and do fun things with my friends.”

Julyssa, the Senior Youth of the Month, is eleven years old and in the sixth grade. Her artistic flair leans towards Anime art. She has been a fan of Anime since she was six years old and has nearly perfected the technique of drawing her favorite characters. She is currently taking private art lessons and hopes with hopes of becoming an Animator in her future. At school she gravitates towards social studies, history, English and science. Julyssa has an affinity for learning history and is currently fascinated with the significant events that took place during 20th century. She also enjoys exploring different musical genres and has a great appreciation for Classic Rock, Heavy Metal, and early Rap stars from the eighties. She attends the Club daily where she participates in the Teen programs. “If I couldn’t come to the Club, I would miss my friends a lot.”
