Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Helps Prepare Teens for the Job Market

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club invites teens ages 16 and above to participate in the Club's Summer Youth Employment program.

The SYE Program is designed to help and prepare teens to understand the job market, undertake the application process and improve their interview and presentation skills to better meet the requirements and expectations of employment opportunities.

The program, led by the GCBGC Teen Program Director Breanna Townsell with assistance and support from board member Christiane Traxler Leonardis, will consist of a series of five workshops taking place on March 1, March 8, March 15, March 22 and March 29 from 6:30pm – 7:45pm. Each mandatory workshop will focus on different aspects of career development from preparing for college to fine tuning job searching techniques and interviewing skills to learning how to manage finances. Bethpage Federal Credit Union Bank will conduct the financial literacy class.

After completion of the SYE workshops, teens can apply for the Club’s Summer Program paid group leader positions which will be available July 3 to August 11. To qualify to apply for the paid group leader positions, teens must be 16 years of age, on free or reduced lunch or on public assistance, have working papers, a birth certificate, and a social security card.

"In today's competitive job market, it's crucial for our Club teens to have the tools they need to succeed. Learning how and where to find a job, what to do on an interview and how to write a resume are just some of the topics we cover. The program provides a way to gain real-world experience through the job search process, while adding skills and hopefully, employment,” said Ms. Townsell.
