Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club January YOM Musically Inclined
Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club selected Kamila D.S. and Mia B. as January's Youth of the Month.

Junior YOM, Kamila, ten, is in the fifth grade and has been a member for nearly three years. She first joined the Club’s Summer program, continued membership for the school year and has been an active and engaged participant ever since. Kamila enjoys being at the Club and her favorite program area is in the Games Room where she can play with friends. “I have a lot of friends here and I feel safe and comfortable. The staff is so nice to us all,” she said of her Club experience. Kamila’s favorite subjects in school are social studies and science but she also likes to draw and read Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. Her other extracurricular activities include playing the violin in orchestra and practicing Jujitsu. Kamila, who has pet birds, hopes to become a veterinarian when she grows up.
Senior YOM, Mia, eleven, is in the sixth grade. She has been a member since the first grade and has attended regularly for the past six years. In school, her favorite subjects are math, science and STEM learning and she hopes to become an Elementary school teacher. Mia also plays the violin as well as sings in the school choir and plays softball. In her very limited free time, Mia enjoys the arts, putting together puzzles and reading. Her favorite book is Guts by Raina Telgemeier. Over the years, she has made many new friends at the Club. Knowing so many of her peers helped her transition from Elementary School to Middle School with great ease. “This is my second home and I have a lot of friends here. This is a fun, happy place and every year, I meet new kids and experience new things,” said Mia.
