Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club June Youth of the Month
Bryan B. and Mykaela P. have been named Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Month for June.

Bryan, 11, just graduated from the fifth grade at Connolly Elementary School. He enjoys sports, reading and social studies. “In Social Studies we learn about people and places and I find that very interesting,” said Bryan. He also has a passion for anything to do with creativity and building, so much so that he hopes to become an architect when he grows up. In fact, one of his favorite Club projects at the Club was building a bowling alley carnival game for Glen Cove Kids Play Day at Prybils Beach. Bryan has been a member of the Club since he was six years old and is very enthusiastic about everything the Club has to offer. When asked when his favorite time at the Club was, Bryan replied “Now. Now is the best time to be at the Club,” saying that the Club only gets better and better for him. “I have made a lot of friends and I try to encourage my friends to be helpful and to cheer people up,” added Bryan, who is grateful for being selected as Youth of the Month and thankful to group leader Miss Lyasia (Milledge) and Miss Makaela (Vaughan) for always being positive and supporting him.
Mykaela, 15, just completed the 10th grade at Robert M. Finley Middle School. A newcomer to the Club, Mykaela has embraced her first year as a Club member wholeheartedly. “I love coming to the Club because of the caring adult supervision and the many peers and friends I have come to know better,” said Mykaela. “It’s very exciting being at the Club where I can be with kids my age who respect each other and look out for each other. There is a real sense of family and togetherness here,” added Mykaela who is also actively involved in the Club’s Mentoring program and has developed a special relationship with Membership Services Coordinator Ms. Giovanna (DeLeon). She also participated in the Club’s Summer Youth Employment program which she credits for teaching her a great deal about better understanding the job market and being able to effectively follow through on the employment process. Mykaela enjoys history and English and gravitates towards the arts that provokes discussion and encourages the expression and exchange of thoughts and ideas. She enjoys singing and is actively involved in the school’s Chorus where she also the president. Mykaela is planning on pursuing a career as a teacher in either history our music
