Club members Andrew M. and Andrea C.M. named as the Youth of the Month for June.
Andrew, nine is and in the fourth grade. His favorite aspect of school is all the kids he has been able to meet and befriend during his tenure as a student. He has been a member of the Club for nearly three years and has made even more friends outside of the school experience. “I did not know what would happen when I first started coming here but I found all the kids here to be genuinely nice, and the staff encourages me to try new things and help me with my homework. This is a good place, a safe place.” Andrew is a budding artist who loves going to art class and hopes to become a sculpture artist someday. While he generally focuses on his creative talents, he does also enjoy playing basketball and soccer with his friends as well going for runs with his father and pet dog.
Andrea, thirteen is in the seventh grade. She is a driven student who is always up to meeting the challenges of her academic pursuits. Her favorite subjects revolve around social studies and civics, and she relishes reading, especially about history and the Women’s Rights Movement. When not entrenched in learning, Andrea spends a great deal of time drawing and finds a sense of tranquility when immersed in her creative illustrations. She has been a member since the third grade and has made many friends. “The Club is like a second home, with the other members and staff feeling just like family.” As a Club member, Andrea takes advantage of any opportunity to help staff from assisting with art projects to reading to younger members to facilitating show and tell projects. Andrea is optimistic for her future and would like to pursue a career in medicine, becoming either a cardiologist or a neurosurgeon.
