Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club May Youth of the Month
Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club May Youth of the Month Monica J.B. and Mindy M. hope to pursue degrees in medicine.

Junior Youth of the Month, 11 year-old Monica J.B. is a sixth grader at Robert M. Finley Middle School. Her favorite subjects are science and writing and she hopes to become doctor when she grows up. Monica has been a member for five years and attends the Club every day where she actively engages in many programs including Dance. Through the Dance program, Monica and the Club’s Dance Team were able to participate in the Club’s first Starbound Dance Competition 2015. “The Dance Competition was really exciting and I’m very grateful to the Club for giving me this opportunity,” said Monica. She also credits the Club for helping her with school work and providing an atmosphere of kindness. “If it weren’t for the Club, I wouldn’t be as good in school, I wouldn’t have liked to try and participate in as many new and different things.”
Senior Youth of the Month for May, 14 year-old Mindy M., is an eighth-grader at Robert M. Finley Middle School. Mindy, who is excelling academically and is in honors English, could not speak English when she first joined the Club at the age of nine. “I was shy and I didn’t know English. Miss Allison (Kaiser, Education Coordinator) used to stay with me and work with me until I got my homework done,” said Mindy. “The Club helped me in many ways including getting me out of my comfort zone and be more outgoing.” Mindy’s favorite subjects are social studies and English but she plans on becoming either an ER doctor or a dentist when she grows up. Mindy recently participated in a Club driven Job Shadowing program at Glen Cove Hospital where she was paired with an emergency department nurse.
Mindy is also a regular at the Club. “For me, the Club means family, respect and loyalty.”
