Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club May Youth of the Month

Dylan, 16, is in the 10th grade at Glen Cove High School. He enjoys science, but hopes to pursue a career as a professional Disc Jockey working in Clubs throughout the world. He looks forward to performing live at concerts where he can mix sounds and music. Dylan has already started making his dream of being a DJ come true by providing the music for Club events, including a recent car wash fundraiser, and at school events. In addition to his passion for music, Dylan also enjoys sports and can often be found in the gymnasium participating in activities. Dylan has been a member for a year and loves being at the Club where he has been able to make new friends and socialize with a whole new group of peers he would not have met otherwise. “The Club is a judgement free zone, where I can be myself and get involved in activities that I love,” said Dylan, who has a special relationship with Associate Director, Desirae O’Neill, whose vibrant sense of humor and ability to tell jokes for keeping him in good spirits.

Gianluca, 9, is in the fourth grade at Landing Elementary School. He has been a member for two years and enjoys coming to the Club where he can play with his friends in the gymnasium. He also gets help with his homework and loves participating in technology related programs. “I love the Computer Lab, where I get to spend time with Mr. Greg (Greg Hand, Technology Coordinator),” said Gianluca. “Mr. Greg is always there for me, and always has fun games and activities to play on the computer,” he added. Gianluca credits Mr. Greg for inspiring him to consider becoming a video game designer when he grows up. Gianluca also enjoys science and reading and spends much of his free time diving into the magical stories in books. He particularly enjoys the Beast Quest series and can also envision himself becoming an author someday. Gianluca can often be found borrowing books from the Club’s library, where he is able to discuss his favorite books with Mr. Sean (Sean O’Callaghan, Education Director). Gianluca’s favorite sport is swimming, and he is looking forward to participating in the Club’s Swimming Program this summer.
