Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club November Youth of the Month
Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club names Mia M. and Kevin M. as the November Youth of the Month.

Eight year old Mia is in the third grade at Landing Elementary School. Mia loves to read and write and dreams of becoming a veterinarian when she grows up. “I love animals and I want to help and take care of them because some of them are endangered,” said Mia, who been a member of the Club for two years. “My mom has to work and I am so glad she enrolled me at the Club. This place means a lot to me. It is my home away from home and I love it here. The staff is always helpful and I have a lot of friends and a lot of fun here. I also like to learn and I am always learning something new at the Club. It is because of the Club that I am now in Academics Plus at school.” In addition to learning and having fun with her friends, Mia is actively involved in the Club’s Dance program, taking classes in jazz and hip hop.
Kevin is 14 years old and in the ninth grade at Glen Cove High School. Kevin, a returning Club member is new to the Club’s Teen program. “I used to come to the Club when I was much younger but stopped because of all m after school commitments. I came back this year because of all my friends. They encouraged me to join them,” said Kevin. “I’m very glad to be back at the Club. I feel like I am at home here. Ms. Desirae (O’Neill), Ms. Breanna (Townsell) and Mr. Chris (Ricco) really help me with my homework and they help me if I am upset or feeling discouraged.” Kevin, whose favorite subject is social studies, enjoys participating in the Club’s athletic programs and playing soccer, basketball and football.
