Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club has named Oswaldo R. and Elias B. as the October Youth of the Month.
Oswaldo is 10 years old and in the fifth grade at Connolly Elementary School and has been a member of the Club for three years. His favorite subjects are science, math and English language arts. He hopes to follow in his families footsteps and pursue a career in the construction business where he can play an instrumental role in the construction of buildings. He enjoys being at the Club where he is able to participate in many activities and receive help with homework. He has made a lot of friends at the Club and has many role models to look up to. “Ms. Lyasia (Milledge, Group Leader) and Mr. Sean (O’Callaghan, Education Director) are always helpful with homework and there for me when I need them,” said Oswaldo. He also added that the Club “always be good and think about my future. They encourage me to not do bad things when I grow up.”
Elias is 13 years old and an eighth grader at Robert M. Finley Middle School. His favorite subjects are science and English and he hopes to become an actor or music producer when he grows up. This is his first year as a Club member and he is very excited about being named the Youth of the Month for October. Prior to joining the Club, Elias would go home after school. In the two short months that he has been a member, he is already appreciating the value of what the Club has to offer him which is much more than just a place to go to during the after school hours. “I have a lot of fun at the Club, I have made many friends and I get the opportunity to get involved, give back and help others. I look forward to the community service the teens participate in through the Club and I’m really looking forward to getting more involved with the music studio.”
