Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Summer Stars
Twins Bethany and Mackenzie H., and Jared G. emerged as shining stars of Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club's six-week Brain Gain Summer program.

The Club's Summer program offers a well-rounded curriculum with a wide range education plan, sports and outdoor activities, creative experiences, hands on arts, crafts and technology projects, in-house themed day events and field trips.
First time members eight-year-old Bethany and Mackenzie absolutely relished being in the program and were thrilled to be recognized. “We loved coming here. Every day was a great surprise,” said Bethany, who is older of the set by two minutes. “We really liked being here at the Club, I wish we could live here,” added Mackenzie. Both girls enjoyed the numerous field trips, art projects, playing games and making friends. They praised the schedule set up of the program and highlighted the kindness of the staff. “The Club made me feel more comfortable and less introverted,” said Bethany, who is the quiet and shy one of the two. Mackenzie on the other hand, is outgoing and adventurous but the two peas in a pod clearly have a special bond of encouraging, complementing and inspiring each other. Bethany, who has a love for animals, wants to become a veterinarian when she grows up while Mackenzie looks forward to becoming a scientist in the field of pharmacy, or possibly an astronaut. With the Summer program now behind them, the girls will soon be heading to the third grade and their very busy schedules filled with piano, Spanish, chess, tennis and swimming lessons.
Jared G. is ten years old and just graduated from elementary school. As new member to the Club this was his first experience in the Summer program. “I really liked being here. I made a lot of friends, and the staff are friendly and always accessible,” said Jared. In addition to the numerous field trips, and playing in the gym, Jared credits the Club for making him a better person. “I have become more considerate and polite.” Jared, who is very mature for his age, excels in science, math, social studies and history. He plans on following in the footsteps of his family by joining the military when he comes of age. In the meantime, he plans on continuing to enjoy his favorite hobbies and activities including playing video games, coloring, Mixed Martial arts, playing basketball and being with his friends. Jared looks forward to returning to the Club in September as he heads to sixth grade at the middle school. "I had such a good time in the Summer program, I'm looking forward to coming back for the school year and seeing the group leaders and my friends again."
