Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Week of Wonder

GCBGC Celebrates Boys & Girls Club Week.

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club joined hundreds of Boys & Girls Clubs across the country to celebrate National Boys & Girls Club Week, an annual event recognizing the invaluable service Clubs bring to communities.

The BGCA week festivities began on Monday, April 8 with a Carnival and Club Pride themed day where members and staff celebrated how much the Club means to them. Tuesday focused on keeping kids safe, anti-bullying efforts and team building exercises. Wellness Wednesday was dedicated to health and fitness projects and activities in the Club’s new NYU Winthrop Health and Wellness Center. Thursday’s Career Day spotlight was around Education, Leadership and Career Readiness. Several community leaders presented to our youth and teens with hands on activities and props; the Glen Cove Fire Department, U.S. Marines, Glen Cove Hospital Northwell Health Pharmacists, New York State Veterans Home Medical Social Worker, Queens District Attorney, Glen Cove Police Department, Motivational Speaker/Retired NYC Detective, and Affinity Healthcare. State Senator James Gaughran visited the Club in support and celebration of the week’s events. On Friday, Mayor Tim Tenke addressed the members and staff honoring the Youth Development Professionals who serve as teachers, friends and mentors. Staff members and volunteers recognized three superb Club Professionals through a heartwarming video presentation recognizing; Anton Seaman, Jahrae O’Neill and Kimberly Medina for their dedication to the Club and the kids. With almost 200 Club members ranging in age from 6 – 18 who participated in the week’s events, the Club looks forward to continuing their efforts with local community leaders and friends and expanding participation each year.

“Our members and staff really look forward to BGCA Week. They put a lot of heart into the events that take place in celebration of our Club. BGCA week gives our kids an opportunity to really think about what the Club means to them and that consideration is reflected in the activities they present and participate in all week,” said GCBGC Executive Director Franca Trunzo Chunga.
