Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Month

Junior Youth of the Month, Isaias is eight years old and in the third grade. His favorite subject is math but he also loves gym where he gets to play soccer, basketball and other sports. He looks forward to exploring his musical talents someday by learning how to play. Isaias first joined the Club through the Summer program but has since been attending the Club throughout the school year. He has been a member for two years and during that time has made many friends. Isaias enjoys participating in the Club’s Arts program where he can discover and his creative talents through various projects and learn to appreciate the different artistic mediums. In addition to the Arts center, he can often be found learning new skills in the Technology Lab or playing sports in the gymnasium with this friends. “I’m happy to come to the Club,” said Isaias who would like to become a dentist when he grows up.

Senior Youth of the Month, Ruben M., is 14 years old and in the ninth grade. This is Ruben’s 2nd time earning the YOM title. He first won this coveted title when he was just six years old and a relatively new member. Ruben has been a consistent member for eight years now. Ruben leans towards math and the sciences and is on the Honor Roll at school. On top of being a stellar student, Ruben also has a passion for basketball and would like to play the sport professionally. However, being the pragmatic young man that he is, has a back-up plan to pursue a career in finance if basketball is not in his future. Ruben attends the Club every day and while sports is a big part of his Club experience, schoolwork is always his priority. “The Club means a lot to me. I don’t think I would have gotten this far without the Club. They go the extra mile for me.”
