Glen Cove Boys Lacrosse Honored at Dinner

The players were recognized for their accomplishments on and off the field.

The Nassau County Lacrosse Coaches Association recently honored four members of Glen Cove High School’s Big Red boy’s lacrosse team and Rob Field of Glen Cove Jr. Lacrosse for their fine work both on and off the lacrosse field.

Seniors Geoffrey Field and Sean Morrissey were named to the All-Conference Team. Geoffrey led Glen Cove in assists for the past three years and will be attending Montclair State this fall. Sean, the team’s face-off specialist had a fantastic 73 win percentage, in addition to leading the midfield in scoring, will attend King’s College.

Michael Hatala, an honorable mention All-County player, led the team in scoring the past three seasons, scoring 43 goals this season alone, including the 100th of his career. Michael will attend Susquehanna College. Brandon Leon served as cover defenseman and was named to the All-County team. Known for his take-away ability, he led the team in takeaways and groundballs, and ranked among the top scoring defenders in the county with seven goals scored. Brandon will be attending Molloy College in the fall.

The boys were also given awards for the work in the classroom. Sean and Michael were named to the Academic All-Conference team, and Brandon to the Academic All-County team.

Field was awarded the Harvey Cohen Service Award, which recognizes individuals who have donated service to both the Jr. League and high school lacrosse programs. In addition to his many years of service as a coach in the Jr. Lacrosse Program, Rob has been instrumental in bringing LaxFest to Glen Cove. LaxFest, a full day of lacrosse that features all the teams in the Glen Cove Jr. League, including second-grade girls, second-grade boys, boys (grades 3-4) and boys grade 5-6, and the high school’s boys junior varsity and varsity, and girls varsity, which culminates with an Alumni Game, featuring former players and coaches from both the Jr. League and high school.
