Glen Cove Celebrates Local Centenarians At Senior Recognition Day

The free event at Morgan Memorial Park on Saturday will feature a barbecue lunch, free blood pressure screenings, raffle prizes and more.

The City of Glen Cove will celebrate local Centenarians at its 11th Annual Senior Recognition Day on Saturday.

The day’s events, which are free, will include a BBQ lunch, the music of The Les Stanco Band, special activities like a photo booth, blood pressure screenings, giveaways, raffles and an assortment of vendor sales and information booths.

This event will be held at Morgan Memorial Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In case of rain, the event will be held at the Glen Cove Senior Center, located at 130 Glen Street.

Besides recognizing those who made it to age 100 and older, the event will honor those who have provided outstanding support to local seniors.

  • The Lifetime Service Award will go to Glen Cove resident Phyllis O. Burnett for her contributions to the Glen Cove senior community.
  • The Bob Howard Community Leadership Award will go to Shirley Pinckney for her advocacy on behalf of the welfare of seniors.
  • Glen Cove Senior Center’s Food Service staff members will be acknowledged with the Senior Volunteers of the Year Award for providing daily nourishment to our area’s seniors. Staff members include Diane Romano, Chris Gunn, Pat Master, John Progalask, Gertie Leake, Valerie Jackson, Ivonne Dorton, Maria Pinedo and Elizabeth Priczak.
