Glen Cove Cheerleaders Place Second in Inaugural Nassau County Champs

Cheerleading officially became a sport in New York State this school year.

Glen Cove’s Cheerleading Team made history on Sunday by being named the runner-up at a the first-ever Nassau County Championship for cheerleading.

The team placed second in the Division II Small Varsity category, behind Clarke High School.

This was a momentous occasion for Glen Cove since this is the first year the team could’ve qualified and placed in the county tournament, which was held at Wantagh High School.

Cheerleading became a sport in New York State this school year. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association will be hosting the first state tournament on March 5 in Syracuse.

Glen Cove will be competing at the national level at the Cheer and Dance Extreme Grand National Championship in Virginia Beach on March 12.
