Glen Cove Dog Park To Open Sunday
Glen Cove canines and their owners are invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony, which will feature raffles and free doggy giveaways.

Canine residents and their owners can help officially open Glen Cove's new dog park on Sunday.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at Dennis Brian Murray Park from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will include fundraising raffles as well as activities for our furry friends, such as free doggy giveaways and bandanas, treats, pet portraits, free nail clippings, a dog/owner lookalike contest and more.
Back in October, Mayor Reggie Spinello announced the construction of a community dog park in the area in back of Dennis Brian Murray Park on Leech Circle South.

“In response to requests from our residents, we created a true public/private partnership to create an environment that gives dog owners an opportunity to safely socialize their pets in a beautiful off-leash park enclosure,” Spinello said in a press release.
The dog park features a gated leash-off entry area with a 150 foot by 100 foot fenced-in open space for large dogs and a separate 100 foot by 50 foot area for small dogs. The park offers new benches, dog leash posts, two pet waste bag dispensers, receptacles, convenient parking, a new water spigot and planted trees. The Dog Park Committee’s fundraising efforts was able to underwrite the purchase of two additional benches and the dog leash posts.

Prizes will include gifts from Dan's Dog Walking and Pet Sitting, Animal General of East Norwich, Hair Above, The View Grill, Delicious Pizza, Downtown Café, Vito’s Restaurant, Scoopy Do, Glen Cove Beer, Bagel Café, Garvies Point Brewery, Kanine Capital Inc., Strong Island Styles and Gold Coast Realty.

The City reminds residents that all dogs in Glen Cove must be licensed. Registration forms can be obtained at the City Clerk’s office, 9 Glen Street, third floor, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The cost of the dog license with the appropriate rabies vaccination documents is $10. Dog owners are also responsible for picking up after their dogs and keeping their pets on leashes while in the open park space.
The following groups and officials worked together to bring the dog park to Glen Cove: Deputy Mayor Barbara Peebles, the Glen Cove Departments of Parks & Recreations, Public Works, the Glen Cove Police Department, the Glen Cove Dog Control Officer and the Dog Park Committee.
Maribeth Graf of the Glen Cove Dog Park Committe thanked the dog park's sponsors, which included Dan's Dog Walking and Pet Sitting, Michael's Pack, Northcoast Subaru and Mario Fischetti & Sons Nursery.
Michael's Pack will also be handing out cards for one free training at his facility.
