Glen Cove EOC Honors Supporters

Volunteerism and donations are what makes the Economic Opportunity Council's outstanding programs for youths, seniors and families possible.

The Glen Cove Economic Opportunity Council’s (EOC) Annual Awards Ceremony & Dinner recognizes graduating high school seniors for outstanding achievement and community volunteers for assisting the EOC. Since May is Community Action Month, it is the perfect time of year to honor people who help the EOC and other agencies with their time and/or financial assistance for the youth, senior citizens and families served by the Council.

Leg. DeRiggi-Whitton was pleased to attend the Glen Cove Economic Opportunity Council's (EOC) awards ceremony & dinner and share in presenting citations to all of the event’s honorees. “The EOC is an amazing organization that does so much for so many,” DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I am so proud to again sponsor a child’s tuition for summer camp and help in any other way I can for this important organization.”

This year’s honorees are: Catherine Ayiku, who is a graduating senior, served as Youth Council President, assisting in the EOC’s after school program among other things. Catherine will be attending Binghamton University; Brookville Church’s multi-faith campus, which donates money for the EOC’s youth programs, Summer Youth Program as well as turkeys served to families at the holidays; Glen Cove Rotary, which donates money towards the EOC’s youth programs, Summer Youth Program and After School Program;

“Having Delia, the Glen Cove Rotary and Brookville Church in our corner greatly improves the quality of life for the participants and families we serve in so many ways,” Glen Cove EOC Director Janice Wardlaw said. “We are very grateful for their commitment and generosity to the Glen Cove EOC.”

The Glen Cove EOC also runs an excellent Summer Youth Program for youths 6-13. Each year, the theme changes, but always focuses in enriching the children’s minds through education and play. This year’s theme is “Creative Expression – Yoga & Mindfulness.” The program runs from July 5 – August 24 and includes field trips, arts and crafts, sports and recreation, snacks and lunch and other fun activities. The cost is $450 that includes all of these activities.
