Glen Cove to Honor Martin Luther King in City-Wide Celebration

The event will feature a performance from members of the Glen Cove High School Select Chorale who recently performed for the Pope in Rome.

Glen Cove will be holding their city-wide annual ceremony honoring Dr. Martin Luther King on Monday, Jan. 18.

The event will feature guest speakers, performances from the Glen Cove High School Select Chorale, the Middle School Choir, the Glen Cove High School Drumline and the ESOTA Dance Company.

The tribute will honor King, whose leadership, life and legacy brought awareness to the importance of civil rights and equality for all.

The ceremonial proceedings will begin at 8:45 a.m. with a symbolic march from the First Baptist Church, located at 7 Continental Place, to the Wunsch Arts Center at the Robert M. Finley Middle on Forest Avenue.

Following the march, young people will share their words, music and dance with the Glen Cove community in this year’s presentation, “Dr. King’s Legacy through the Eyes of Youth” at 9:30 a.m.

“I want to recognize the dedicated volunteers of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Birthday Commission who each year does an outstanding job in recognizing the contributions of Dr. King,” Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello said in a press release. “We welcome all area residents to join us at important event.”
