Glen Cove Honors Seniors at Awards Ceremony

Glen Cove High School celebrated the outstanding achievements of members of the Class of 2016 during its Senior Awards ceremony on May 26.

The evening began with Principal Antonio Santana greeting students and their family members. It continued with seniors receiving a wide variety of scholarships and recognition from many organizations, such as the Police Benevolent Association, the League of Women Voters and Glen Cove Teachers Association. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Maria Rianna was also in attendance and presented honors to valedictorian Maria Krisch, salutatorian Michelle Melfi and honorarian Justin Sobelman.

A few award recipients included:

• Glen Cove senior Devin Johnson was honored with the Mayor’s Government Achievement Award from City of Glen Cove Mayor Reginald Spinello. (Photo1)
• Class of 2016 valedictorian Maria Krisch received several awards at the ceremony, including the Mathematics Department Award of Excellence and the Glen Cove Teachers Association Academic Scholarship. (Photo 2) Cassandra Shannon, coordinator of mathematics is also pictured.
• Brandon Leon (left) and Christian Guevara received the Social Studies Award of Excellence. (Photo 3) Melanie Arfman, coordinator of social studies is also pictured.
• Aaron Hall received the AAA Drivers Education Award. (Photo 4) Principal Antonio Santana is also pictured.

Principal Santana commended all of the students on their accomplishments, acknowledging that they were the “direct result of many conscious and unconscious choices and decisions, evidence that things were done right, even when it wasn’t easy.”
