Glen Cove Man Drove Drunk With Infant Daughter In Car: Police

A Glen Cove man was arrested and charged with an aggravated DWI while his 1-year-old daughter was in the car: Police.

OLD WESTBURY, NY—A man was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly drove drunk with his 1-year-old daughter in the car, Nassau Police said.

Just before 8 a.m., police noticed a driver in a 2007 Nissan traveling west on Jericho Turnpike not staying in his lane and not signaling when changing lanes. The officer turned on his emergency lights and stopped the driver near Jericho Turnpike and Powell Lane in Westbury.

Elmer G. Martinez-Cartagena, 28, of Glen Cove, was allegedly drinking and driving while his 1-year-old daughter was in the rear passenger child seat, police said. Martinez-Cartagena was arrested without incident, and the infant was released to a family member. No injuries happened.

Martinez-Cartagena was charged with an aggravated DWI under Leandra's Law, DWI 1192.3 and 1192.2, endangering the welfare of a child and numerous New York State vehicle VTL violations. He will be arraigned Monday, June 24, at First District Court in Hempstead.
