Glen Cove Marching Band places 5th at Columbus Day Parade
Student-performers competed against 18 other bands.

The Glen Cove High School Marching Band was awarded fifth place at the 70th annual New York City Columbus Day Parade Marching Band competition.
The student-performers, who competed against 18 other bands, were part of the parade’s first division, marching behind Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the Harlem Globetrotters, in recognition of their fourth-place standing during their first trip to the parade in 2013.

According to Band Director Nick Carbuto, judges from the competition offered remarks based on the Marching Band’s performance, which included, “Excellent sounding group,” “Dynamics, tone and intonation are right on point” and “Great job with the flags.”
Student conductor Samantha Smith led the 92-member marching band during the competition. In addition, 16 kickline members and 18 varsity cheerleaders performed.
