Glen Cove Personnel Officer Receives NYS Presidential Award
This award is considered the highest recognition in Civil Service Administration for civil service professionals.

City of Glen Cove Personnel Officer John Charon was recently awarded New York State Department of Civil Service’s President’s Award.
This award is considered the highest recognition in Civil Service Administration for civil service professionals who excel in civil service administration.
“The President’s Award is a great honor for New York State Civil Service professionals and a reflection of the professionalism and fairness with which we, the City’s Civil Service Commission, strive to operate,” Civil Service Commissioner Ed Hill said in a press release. “This award is a true testament to John Charon’s dedication to the principals of civil service and his leadership on behalf of the department and the entire City workforce. His excellence in civil service administration helps provide a top-notch workforce to serve the community.”

Charon has worked for the City of Glen Cove since 1999. He has served as the city’s Personnel Officer since 2008, and has also served as the Secretary of the Glen Cove Municipal Civil Service Commission, where he is responsible for the civil service administration of the local agencies with in Glen Cove, including the School District, Library and Housing Authority.
“I am honored to receive this special recognition, and it is my privilege to serve the Glen Cove community,” Charon said.

Charon is also the immediate past-president of the New York State Association of Personnel and Civil Service Officers having served a two-year term that ended June 6, 2017. Charon graduated from Glen Cove High School with a Bachelor’s Degree from New York Institute of Technology.
“I congratulate John on receiving this prestigious award as it is a true testament to his leadership, professionalism and his accomplishments on behalf of the City of Glen Cove and our Civil Service team members,” said Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello.
