Glen Cove Police 'Shines the Light' on Domestic Violence During Month of October

Statistics show that someone you know has been, or will be, a victim of domestic violence.

The Glen Cove Police Department is “shining the light” on domestic violence by illuminating the department’s headquarters in the color purple for the entirety of October in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Hundreds or organizations and individuals throughout New York State participate in the “Shine the Light on Domestic Violence” campaign each year. All Glen Cove residents and beyond are invited to participate.

Domestic violence is unfortunately a very common thing. Statistics show that someone you know has been, or will be, a victim of domestic violence.

The problem doesn’t discriminate: it affects women, men, and children. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in three women and one in four men have been victims of some form of physical violence by a partner within their lifetime.

“The City of Glen Cove Police is participating in New York’s program and we encourage residents to take a moment and think about what they can do to help put an end to domestic violence as awareness of the problem is the first step to doing something about it,” Whitton said.
