Glen Cove’s Bravest and Finest Make an Impact on Young Club Members

Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department and the Glen Cove Police Department recently visited Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club

Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department and the Glen Cove Police Department recently visited Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club to demonstrate the role they play and the actions they take to ensure safety and manage a crisis as first responders.

On Tuesday October 4th, Ex-Captain Mike DiLeo and Firefighter Pete Prudente held a Fire Safety Awareness presentation for Club members focusing on fire safety, fire prevention and emergency preparedness and shared how firemen are trained to help save lives. More than 100 Club members were able to see firsthand the complexities, intricacies and facets of a firefighter’s uniform and gear as well as take a tour of the Firetruck.

On October 12th, Glen Cove Police Officer Ted Karousos visited the Club discuss the duties of a police officer, personal safety and even shared his experiences as a lifetime Glen Cove Community member. Officer Karousos spoke to Club members about self-respect, respect for community and others and the importance of positive relationships with law enforcement.

For both events, Club members were attentive, actively engaged and truly enjoyed the invaluable experiences, lessons learned and the opportunity to ask the firefighters and officer relevant questions at the end of each presentation.

“We are very grateful to have such kind, caring and dedicated individuals as first responders in our Glen Cove Community. We appreciate the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department and The Glen Cove Police Department for dedicating their time and efforts to our Club and Members. Our youth truly appreciate community involvement and when they see community leaders taking the time to get to know them, it encourages them to develop positive and respectful relationships with others,” said Desirae O’Neill, GCBGC Associate Director.
