Glen Cove Students Grand Ole Opry Bound

The students will perform in the All-National Honor Ensembles.

Glen Cove student-musicians Samantha Smith and Ryan Carmody have been selected to perform in the All-National Honor Ensembles presented by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee.

Smith, who has been playing the clarinet since third grade, is performing as part of the All-National Concert Band and is Glen Cove’s first student to be selected for this notable honor.

“This is going to be an amazing experience, to perform at the Grand Ole Opry and to meet students that are just as interested in music as I am is very exciting,” Smith said.

Carmody will perform with the All-National Mixed Choir. The high school senior said he’s been singing as long as he could remember and is very excited to go to Nashville.

“This a huge musical place and it’s an honor to perform there,” Carmody said.

The NAfME All-National Honor Ensembles represent the top performing high school musicians in the United States. Students chosen for this prestigious honor will work for several days with some of the most renowned conductors in the United States, before performing in concert at the Grand Ole Opry House on Oct. 29.
