Glen Cove Third Graders Learn Lacrosse From High School Players

Creating a lacrosse legacy in Glen Cove.

Landing School students in Joanne Flower’s third-grade class were taught the basics of lacrosse during physical education class from Glen Cove High School athletes and Landing School physical education teacher Karen Serani.

During the visit, student-athletes from the high school, Michelle Melfi, Lindsey Payton and Sean Morrisey offered tips on how to hold a lacrosse stick and how to cradle the ball. They also spoke to students about peer pressure, the importance of taking part in extracurricular activities and reminded the youngsters to always look out for their own best interests.

Many of Glen Cove High School’s student-lacrosse players visited each of the district’s elementary schools in an effort to promote the sport of lacrosse. The high school athletes also encouraged the elementary students to participate in the Glen Cove Jr. Lacrosse Club’s free clinics, which will take place at Finley Middle School on Wednesdays Dec. 2, Dec. 9, Dec. 16, Dec. 23 and Jan. 6 for boys grades K-6; and on Fridays Dec. 4, Dec. 11, Dec. 18 and Jan. 8 for girls grades K-8. All clinics will be held from 6:30-8 p.m.
