Glen Cove Unanimously Adopts Property Tax Exemption For Disabled Veterans
City officials unanimously approved the measure to provide tax relief for veterans with service-connected disabilities.
GLEN COVE, NY — Glen Cove has unanimously adopted a property tax exemption for disabled veterans.
This will provide a full exemption from City property taxes and applicable City special district charges for qualifying severely disabled veterans, officials said.
The Glen Cove City Council adopted Resolution 8A at its February 24 meeting, which establishes "a veterans real property tax exemption as permitted under Section 458-a(11) of the New York State Real Property Tax Law."

Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck proposed the resolution at the council meeting.
"This action reflects Glen Cove’s deep respect and gratitude for the men and women who have sacrificed for our country," Panzenbeck said.

To qualify for this tax exemption, the veteran must meet the following criteria:
- Must have been discharged from services under qualifying conditions.
- Must be permanently disabled as a result of military service.
- Must be rated 100 percent disabled by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
- Must be classified as individually unemployable by the VA.
- Must meet federal housing assistance eligibility requirements related to specially adapted housing.
The exemption applies only to City property taxes. School taxes are separate.
