Glen Cove Youth Bureau Wraps Up Summer Program With Showcase
One teen was recognized for volunteering with the Youth Bureau for six weeks.

The Glen Cove Youth Bureau recently wrapped up the third year of its summer learning program with a Glen Cove After 3 Showcase.
Over 90 children participating in the program were able to present their projects to their parents, Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello, Councilman Michael Famiglietti and Councilwoman Pam Panzenbeck.

The featured projects included the children’s best work from activities in science, art, creative writing, history, cooking, dance and music.
“This year’s theme was the Caribbean and the kids did an incredible job in teaching guests like me all about the islands,” Mayor Reggie Spinello said in a statement.

At the showcase, Glen Cove teen Michael Famiglietti was recognized for volunteering with the Youth Bureau for six weeks during the summer.
Showcase visitors were also treated to samples of Crunchy Asian Chicken Wraps which were taught during cooking lessons. (See recipe below)
Throughout the program, the children had the opportunity to:
- Learn soccer tips from New York Cosmo players
- Attend a Cosmo soccer game
- Get fit with choreographed Zumba routines
- Maintain their commitment to academics with creative writing, research and reading
- Learn about civics and the judicial system. They youths ended the program with two mock tricks with Judge McCord presiding over the cases.
The program was under the direction of Youth Bureau executive director Arlene O’Dell and After 3 Summer Program Coordinator Spiro Tsirkas.
Crunchy Asian Chicken Wraps recipe:
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup Kraft Asian Toasted Sesame Dressing
- 2 Tablespoons Miracle Whip Salad Dressing
- 4 Cups Shredded Lettuce
- 2 Cups Chopped Cooked Chicken
- 1 Large Carrot Shredded
- 1 Green Onion Thinly Sliced
- 4 Flour Tortilla (10 inch)
Directions:
Mix dressings together in a large bowl. Add lettuce, chicken, carrots and onion and mix lightly. Spoon mixture evenly onto the Tortilla; roll up and serve.
The Youth Bureau’s After 3 Summer program is made possible through the support of the City of Glen Cove; The Friends of the Glen Cove Youth Board; Island Harvest who provides the free lunches; the Long Island Community Foundation who funded a 6 week Alternative Energy Program by the Cradle of Aviation where participants created solar powered cars and the NY Cosmos partnership; and the United World Foundation supported a trip to the Cradle of Aviation for all summer participants and sponsored a partnership between Glen Cove After 3 and the North Shore Historical Museum.
