Glen Cove's Connolly Students Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness
Students raised $650 to be donated to Glen Cove C.A.R.E.S, a not-for-profit agency providing assistance to neighbors coping with cancer.

Glen Cove students took strides to fight breast cancer at Connolly School’s fifth annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk-a-Thon, which was held on Oct. 3.
Hosted by Connolly’s Student Council, with assistance from advisors Susan Stanco and Monique Vaccaro, the event took place during the students’ recess periods on the school’s back field.

“In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the children felt the needed to support a worthy cause,” Connolly Principal Rose Sekelsky said. “They decided to give up their recess to support the thousands of breast cancer patients and survivors.”
Students raised $650 through pledges, which will be donated to Glen Cove C.A.R.E.S, a not-for-profit agency that provides assistance to residents of Glen Cove and neighboring communities coping with the crisis of cancer.

Prior to the event, Stanco said she explained the importance of supporting people around the world that are affected by this disease to Connolly students.
“People are going through hard times,” Stanco said. “This is what we can do to help them.”
Superintendent of Schools Maria Rianna, Principal Sekelsky and teachers Olga Notskas, Frank Monteleone and George Kearnes also joined the fun, walking lap after lap with students.
