Prosecutors say he ambushed the couple outside a West Hempstead restaurant; sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 25 in Nassau County court.
   

5. Races on Long Island could help decide control of Congress (newsday.com) — Long Island's congressional races, including Tom Suozzi of Glen Cove seeking reelection in the 3rd District, could help decide which party controls the U.S. House. Analysts say Democrats need only a small net gain nationally, and both parties are zeroing in on suburban districts like Suozzi's as potential tipping points.
