Holocaust Remembrance Day
Holocaust Survivor Werner Reich speaks at Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building in Mineola

Holocaust Remembrance Day was established to commemorate the millions of people killed by the Nazi regime and to ensure education and awareness about the Holocaust continues. Ellen Birnbaum, Nassau County Legislator for the 10th District, sponsored a Holocaust Remembrance Day event on April 13, 2018 in the Ceremonial Chamber of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building in Mineola. Featured speakers during the ceremony were Chairman of The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center Steven Markowitz, Holocaust Survivor Werner Reich and New York State Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso.
The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC) also hosted a day of remembrance, which included speakers and special exhibits. “Anything surrounding the Holocaust is horrific, but continuing to educate the world about the atrocities committed on fellow human beings is absolutely necessary,” Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton said. “The memory of the millions who died must remain. I thank Legislator Birnbaum for presenting the program at the Legislature and for her involvement with HMTC.”
HMTC is located in Welwyn Preserve, 100 Crescent Beach Road in Glen Cove. Visit hmtcli.org or call 516-571-8040 to learn about the exhibits and programs available.
