City Denies Application for New Era Tire Plant

Chairman Thomas Scott announced that the the application for retread factory on Glen Cove waterfront was denied.

A round of applause broke out in Glen Cove City Hall, during Tuesday night's Planning Board meeting, after board chairman Thomas Scott announced that the city will deny New Era Tire's application to operate a tire retread factory on the waterfront at Garvies Point Road.

Glen Cove resident Mayer Mehraban applied for a permit to operate New Era Tire, his retreading business, which would buff out the old treads on tires and put on new ones, at the Garvies Point Road location back in September, sparking over 80 residents to show up at the Sept. 21 Planning Board Meeting to protest the proposal.

The Planning Board deferred the proposal during the Oct. 5 meeting.
