Local Girl Scout Partners with the Animal Lovers League! Jessica Bellomo will reach Gold Award status by raising awareness.

Join Jessica on August 1st at the Locust Valley Street Festival and on August 4th at Glen Cove's National Night Out Against Crime.

Jessica will be hosting various presentations and hands-on learning sessions that will take place on August 1st at the Locust Valley Sale Under The Sun Street Festival, (Elm Street) between 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as well as on August 4th during Glen Cove’s National Night Out Against Crime (Brewster Street) between 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. [J2] Jessica chose to address this very important issue for her Gold Award project because animals cannot speak for themselves and they need someone to represent them. She feels that new pet owners should be properly informed to keep their pets safe. Jessica states that “this issue should matter to others because it’s inhumane to treat animals in such a cruel manner. It is the morally wrong thing to do.” She believes the local community will benefit from more information about this global epidemic.

Her passion for this important issue emerged from reading many articles and seeing on the news how people were not properly caring for the well-being of their pets, seeing many dogs dying from being left in hot cars and how dogs were being poorly treated, abused and neglected and she felt that she needed to do something about it. “I want to be their voice and advocate for them,” says Jessica. Her motto is “Be A Pet’s Voice: If You See Animal Abuse Or Animal Cruelty . . . Speak Up!”

During the presentations, Jessica will be collecting pet items to be including in Pet Emergency Kits that she will be preparing which will be donated to local animal shelters. Suggestion of items for cats/dogs include: Food, treats, toys, leashes, collars, brushes, waste disposable bags, etc. Donation items must be fairly new and unused.

Jessica hopes to make people more aware of how prevalent this issue is in our society. “I plan to impact not only my community but also inspire others worldwide by providing pet owners with a better understanding of how to keep their pets healthy and increase their longevity, make people more aware of what to do in situations where someone is abusing an animal and to reduce animal cruelty,” says Jessica Bellomo.
