'The Men in Black' Compete in Robotics Competition in Glen Cove
Finley Middle School hosted the robotics competition on Jan. 16.

Finley Middle School hosted the iDesign and Masters School with Glen Cove 2016 VRC Qualifier robotics competition on Jan. 16.
At the event, the district’s robotics team, “The Men in Black,” which is comprised of Finley Middle School and Glen Cove High School students, was honored with the Sportsmanship Award. The Men in Black used two robots in the contest, competing against 30 teams from approximately 20 schools.
All of the participants took part in the game “Nothing but the Net,” which tasks students with operating their robot to drop balls into a net, without making contact with the net. Four robots making up two teams compete in each match. According to Lisa Pignataro, the team’s adviser, the robots are programmed with four ways to get the ball in the net, which include low lift, high lift, low goal or high goal.
