New York American Water Awarded Project of the Year from NYSAWWA
Awarded for the Glen Head Elevated Tank Replacement

New York American Water is proud to announce that it has received the Project of the Year Award from the New York State Chapter of the American Water Works Association (NYSAWWA). In working with its consulting engineers, D&B Engineers and Architects, New York American Water worked closely with the community to complete the design and construction of the new $6.2 million, 500,000-gallon tank that was completed in January 2021. This critical piece of infrastructure stores water and pressurizes the water systems in Glen Head, Sea Cliff, Roslyn Harbor, Old Brookville, and Glenwood Landing customers.
“On behalf of our team, engineers and customers, we are truly honored to receive this Project of the Year Award from the NYSAWWA,” said New York American Water President Lynda DiMenna. “This recognition is a testament to all of the hard work we have collectively exerted to make the required investments in our infrastructure that will allow for the delivery of high-quality water for decades to come. The work to improve our systems is never over so we look forward to continuing our aggressive capital projects plan to improve and fortify our water systems.”
The old tower sat atop the hill on Dumond Place for nearly 100 years but was taken offline in January 2020 when the initial de-construction had begun. The new water tower, which matches the aesthetic of the previous one, uses the weight of the water in the tank to keep the system pressurized, especially in times of high demand during the summer or during a fire emergency. Elevated towers are extremely cost effective as they use gravity—rather than pumps—to pressurize the system, which reduces operating and maintenance costs.
