Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Harbor Child Care
To commemorate the completion of its enhanced playground and outdoor learning environment.
For the past two years Harbor Child Care embarked on a journey to construct an enhanced playground and outdoor learning environment for teachers and children at its location in Glen Cove, New York at 49 Forest Avenue. Harbor chose a highly reputable company to construct and install 21st century state-of-the-art playground equipment and surface that included soft green turf, benches for teachers and children, a new structure for infants and toddlers, and a structure called “Camp Walden” with options for each child to enjoy, regardless of their age or level of physical ability. High school senior Joseph Chebuske chose to design and construct an outdoor classroom for his Eagle Scout project. Joseph used the proceeds from his well-organized fundraising to purchase benches, flowers and plants as part of the new classroom’s installation. Both projects were completed in time for the summer months!
On August 15, 2019, Harbor Child Care held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to commemorate the opening of the new playground and outdoor classroom. The ceremony was well-attended by staff, Board members, Harbor’s landlord, the Chebuske family, and special guests from the City of Glen Cove. We were delighted to be joined by Mayor Tim Tenke and Councilwoman Marsha Silverman. Mr. Tenke presented a proclamation/certificate from the City of Glen Cove to Harbor’s Center Director Claudia Recarey as appreciation for Harbor’s role in educating young children and adding value to the community as a highly-respected child care organization.
Harbor Child Care is regulated by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. It is required that equipment be modern and meet safety standards according to New York State regulations for children. It is also necessary that children receive physical movement and exercise as part of Harbor’s new Creative Curriculum. This new playground helps our children play freely, enhance their social skills, and explore new possibilities for fun, games and imagination! Connecting the new playground to the curricular area of physical education/health is our main goal!
