Community Corner

Scoutpalooza - May 2

2nd Annual Event to showcase Scouting and Community Service

On Saturday May 2 scouting groups from Glen Cove will gather in Pratt Park (next to the Firehouse). The different scouting groups - Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Daisys, Brownies, and Girl Scouts - will be demonstrating skills and displaying the results of their time in scouting. All are invited - guests will be able to take part in a Pinewood Derby race, sample campfire cookies, and take part in crafts demonstrations. A ceremony will also be conducted to retire American Flags no longer fit for display.

Community Service is a large part of scouting. At the event clothing and canned goods will be collected for distribution to local pantries and shelters. Empty water bottles will be collected - the proceeds from the return of the bottles will be used In a joint fundraiser at a local school to send kids to camp.

Also as part of their commitment to community service the scouts will perform projects in the park such as flower planting and spring cleanup.
