Shore Road Update

Officials and residents meet to discuss Shore Road issues.

Shore Road Group Discuss Traffic Issues

Shore Road and The Boulevard in Glen Cove and Sea Cliff are narrow roads with one leading into the other along the shoreline. Aside from being a thoroughfare between the two communities, summer traffic leads to increased congestion and noise because the road ends at popular Sea Cliff Beach.

Shore Road Neighbors was formed to work together and with local officials to calm traffic as best as possible. Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, County Police Inspector Daniel Flanigan, Nassau County Police Officer Brody, and County Director of Traffic Engineering Harold Lutz attended a recent meeting with the roads’ neighbors. They discussed the traffic situation and came up with some ideas. Also in attendance to represent the Village of Sea Cliff were Dan Flanzig and Bruce Kennedy.

“Although many ideas and suggestions were shared, a traffic study is needed to determine next steps and if traffic calming and streetscaping are options,” said County Traffic Engineer Lutz.

Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton added, “I appreciate the time and effort made to organize this group of concerned neighbors. Shore Road is a beautiful road to live on, and we want to make every effort to help calm the traffic. Most of the cars are local, and we hope everyone realizes that families live in this area, kids play at the ball fields, and especially with the summer months coming, we hope that drivers remember to use caution and obey the speed limit.”

Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton also shared, “we have the funding in place to repave the road, and we look forward to working with the Nassau County Police, Glen Cove Police, the traffic engineers, Mayor Tenke, the City Council and neighbors in the area to help address the traffic concerns.”
