Solomon Hoffman Recital at Sands Point Preserve

Original chamber and vocal music at the Design Showhouse, with proceeds going to essential restorations at the Preserve.

Sunday brings music to Design Showhouse, which features a series of events on current trends at Palm Court a Hempstead House at Sands Point Preserve. Showhouse proceeds support essential restoration projects and improvements to the Preserve’s historic buildings and grounds.

On Sunday at 2:30 p.m., Port Washington native Solomon Hoffman presents a recital of his original chamber and vocal music in Hempstead House at Sands Point Preserve. He will be joined by musicians from Columbia, Juilliard and Mannes: Elizabeth Sun (violin), Christine Murphy (flute), Ethan Usoskin (clarinet), Cynthia Jung (bassoon), and Kyra Atekwana (soprano). The recital will feature a variety of Hoffman’s music, ranging from quintets, to solo pieces, to songs. The program will also include a world premiere.

A Columbia University alum with a BA in music and psychology, Hoffman remains a fixture in the Port Washington arts community. He’s conducted the Port Summer Show for eight years, and founded the free weekly Café Music series at Dolphin, which he continues to curate. He frequently performs at benefits around town and for programs in Port Washington schools.

This year the Design Showhouse theme is Home of An American Renaissance Family, paying homage to the Guggenheim family’s extraordinary accomplishments in business, the arts, and philanthropy. Top designers have transformed the rooms inside the 1912 Tudor-style mansion into modern-day interpretations of the Guggenheim’s elegant Gold Coast lifestyle of the 1920s and 1930s.
