Glen Cove is considered the safest big city in New York, according to a recent study by ValuePenguin.
The 2015 Safest Places in New York study analyzed the most recent FBI Crime Report to determine the safety of cities and towns in New York. The safest places in the state were found to be considered a town or a village. Most of the cities fell near the bottom of the rankings, with one exception.

Glen Cove, with a population of 27,134 and a crime score of 72, was ranked the No. 7 safest place to live in New York.

Situated on Long Island’s north shore, Glen Cove is the only non-town or -village to rank among the top 65 safest places in the state. The city is also the most populated of any of the top 20. Still connected to New York City by the Long Island Railroad, it was apart of the 1920s-famed Gold Coast, and the city remains a pricey living option; the average home value in 2012 was $490,394, 75% higher than the state’s average.
