Summer Youth Employment Program at Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club will be conducting a Youth Employment program for teens.

Christiane Leonardis, Member of Board of Directors and Breanna Townsell, Teen Program Director at the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club worked together to establish workshops for teens to be considered for a summer position with the Club. Students must attend all workshops to be considered for employment at the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Summer Program. Workshops were geared towards career and job search skills which included cover letter and resume writing as well as interviewing tips. A total of five workshops will be offered in two sessions on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm. Session one will begin on Wednesday, March 2 through March 30. Session 2 will begin on Wednesday, April 13 through May 18 (no session during Spring Recess). Students will attend an orientation at the end of June once they undergo an interview by Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club professionals and are offered group leader position. According to participant and Club member, Nyzia Vaughan, age 16, “I’m happy that Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club provides students like me with the opportunity for Summer Youth Employment workshops. Through the program I was able to learn how to expand my communication skills, because I usually kept to myself. The program also helped improve my financial literacy. I didn’t know how to manage my money or even deposit a check, but being able to work during the summer helped give me the opportunity to learn.”

The Summer Program will run at the Glen Cove Boys & Girls from July 5th-August 12th for members ages 6-12. For more information on Summer Program, Summer Youth Employment or how to become a Counselor in Training, visit the Club or refer to www.glencovebgc.org.
