Suozzi Rips 'Incompetence' Of Speaker Johnson For Failed House Votes

Suozzi, the former congressman, faces Mazi Pilip in the Feb. 13 special election.

GLEN COVE, NY — Tom Suozzi, the Democratic challenger in next week's special election, is condemning House Speaker Mike Johnson for his failed vote on Israeli aid.

"It was his complete incompetence to not have the votes counted ahead of time," Suozzi said during a Wednesday press conference. "It was a cynical, political move."

Suozzi said that people are suffering "because of these political hacks [who] are not doing their jobs to figure out how to get it over the finish line."

Early voting runs until Sunday in the 3rd Congressional District, ahead of Election Day on Feb. 13 when constituents will decide who replaces the expelled George Santos. Suozzi faces upstart Republican Mazi Pilip, a County Legislator from Great Neck.

"My opponent in this race, with complete inexperience [and] Republican talking points that are extreme with no policy chops and no understanding of how government and politics works, will make this worse," Suozzi said. "She's unvetted. She's unprepared."

However, Suozzi, who was first elected to Congress in 2016, admitted Long Island is becoming a harder place to turn, or keep, blue.

"The Democratic brand has been decimated over the past three years," Suozzi said.

Suozzi and Pilip hold their only debate on Thursday night.
