Rapper Fetty Wap Caught Racing On Gowanus Expressway, Police Say

The rap star was arrested in Brooklyn Friday morning for speeding at about 100 mph down the Gowanus Expressway, police said.

GOWANUS, BROOKLYN — Police caught rapper Fetty Wap racing another car on the Gowanus Expressway Friday morning.

Willie Maxwell, the rap star’s given name, sped his black 2012 Mercedes CLS AMG at more than 100 mph down the Gowanus Expressway near Hamilton Avenue around 1 a.m., police said.

When police officers pulled over Fetty Wap, he gave them a suspended New Jersey’s driver’s license and failed a sobriety test, blowing a .09, said police.

Fetty Wap was arrested and charged with engaging in an illegal speed contest, reckless endangerment, driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and 11 other charges, said police.

The rap star is expected to be arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Friday, police said.

Fetty Wap is best known for his singles "Trap Queen," which ranked second on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in May 2015, and "My Way," a song in which the artist boasts about "swerving all in traffic" and doing "200 on the highway."
