Infant Girl Found Dead in Red Hook Apartment: Police
Police are investigating the cause of death of a 10-month-old girl who was found unconscious in a Red Hook apartment.
RED HOOK, NY — Police are investigating the death of an infant girl found unconscious and unresponsive Friday night in a Red Hook apartment building, police said Monday.
Officers responded to the building on the 700 block of Henry Street around 8:30 p.m. and found EMS treating 10-month-old Meilani Hernandez, police said. Hernandez was transported to Methodist Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Hernandez was not suffering from any outward signs of trauma when she was found, police said. Initial signs showed that the girl may have been left unattended in a bathtub, but an ongoing Medical Examiner's investigation has not confirmed a cause of death, a police spokeswoman told Patch.
